Every week in nursery we have a lovely volunteer who comes in to bake with the children. Today they made victoria sponge cake! The children helped with adding the ingredients to the bowl and mixing it all together. Baking together helps children develop fine motor skills, eye hand coordination, and even early concepts of math and science as well as life skills.
All the children patiently waited for the cake to bake. Once baked, everyone enjoyed having a taste! Children were able to explore their senses by feeling the ingredients, smelling the cake as it baked and having a yummy taste at the end. Baking with children also encourages an adventurous palate as they try out new textures and flavours.
We had a great day baking in nursery today, it's boosted their confidence and provided them with the opportunity to gain a sense of accomplishment!
